Diploma of Aviation – Instrument Rating

The Diploma of Aviation - Instrument Rating qualification is a minimum requirement for employment in the Air Transport Commercial Aviation industry (ie QANTAS, Virgin etc)

Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to use Instrument operations in various weather conditions including Night VFR and Multi-Engine Aeroplane Instrument endorsements.

We would recommend for you to complete the AVI50222 Diploma of Aviation – Commercial Pilot Licence – (Aeroplane) course (Dual Diploma) to increase your employment prospects.

Students will undertake approximately 49 hours of flight training with approximately 12.5 hours in our Diamond DA42-NG (Twin Engine) aircraft with 5 hours of night flying (simulated or real and up to 21 hours in our Flight Training device. Additional endorsements will also include Night VFR Rating, Multi-Engine Aeroplane and 2D/3D Instrument approach.

The course duration is approximately 16 weeks and is conducted at our facility at the Port Macquarie Airport.  During this time you will complete up to 24 hours of pre- and post flight briefs and up to 300 hours of theory and self-study.  You will be required to successfully pass a CASA IREX exam and in-house exams and flight tests.  Class sizes are kept to a relatively low number to enhance your learning.

To be considered for this course, students must meet the minimum entry requirements. Please be aware, meeting these requirements does not guarantee entry.

Students must be over the of age 18 prior to their first day of study.

All eligibility requirements from the AVI50222 Diploma of Aviation – Commercial Pilot Licence (Aeroplane) apply and all certificates, including Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC), Aviation Reference Number (ARN) and medical exam must be current and valid.

Students who are enrolled in the ‘Dual Diploma’ program (AVI50222 and AVI50519) will be able to continue their studies without interruption.

Students who do not hold an AVI50222 Diploma of Aviation – Commercial Pilot Licence (Aeroplane) but would like to study our non-accredited Instrument Ratings course, our CASA Flight Instructor course, or any other CASA endorsed program should contact us to discuss your training needs and options.

Prospective students should also check the specific eligibility requirements outlined on the CASA website as well as any additional entry requirements that may be outlined in our enrolment form.

A successful assessment outcome must be achieved for at least 14 units comprising of:

—   13 Core units listed below, plus;

—   1 General Elective unit

AVIF0030 Manage safe flight operations

AVIH0013 Plan a flight under instrument flight rules

AVIH0017 Navigate aircraft under instrument flight rules

AVIW0032 Operate and manage aircraft systems

AVIY0033 Operate aircraft using aircraft flight instruments

AVIY0044 Conduct a 2D instrument approach

AVIY0050 Perform instrument arrival and standard arrival route procedures

AVIY0073 Operate aircraft in the traffic pattern at night

AVIY0074 Perform non-published instrument departure procedures

AVIY0075 Perform published instrument departure procedures

AVIY0076 Perform visual circling approach

AVIY0081 Conduct a 2D global navigation satellite system non-precision instrument approach
