To obtain a Grade III Instructor Rating, students will generally complete 42.5 hours flight time in a Diamond DA40NG. Once your instructor is confident of your abilities, you’ll need to demonstrate your skills and knowledge in a 2-hour flight test with a Civil Aviation Safety Authority Flight Examiner.
120 hours classroom time will prepare you to achieve your goals. Class sizes are kept small to ensure you get the best learning experience.
This course can be taken full-time and is normally completed within 10 weeks at our Port Macquarie campus at Port Macquarie Airport. Courses may be extended to 12 weeks due to inclement weather.
Next Intake date 2nd February 2026. Class dependent on minimum number of students.
To be considered for this course, students must meet the minimum entry requirements. Please be aware, meeting these requirements does not guarantee entry.
Students must be over the of age 18 prior to their first day of study.
To be eligible to apply, students must also hold a current Commercial Pilot licence and a Night VFR rating.
You’ll also need to have an Aviation Reference Number (ARN) or an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC).
Students must be proficient in English and meet the minimum English Language Proficiency requirements.
Satisfactory completion of Year 12 or equivalent education is required. Under certain circumstances we may consider students who have not completed Year 12 or equivalent.
All applicants are required attend an information briefing session.
Students must consent to mandatory and random drug and alcohol testing.
Applicants must be in a position to pay all fees and charges. Please be aware we may ask you to provide evidence.
