The Commercial Pilot Licence – CPL – is our Nationally recognised Diploma qualification. After successful completion you will be issued with the Diploma and a CASA Commercial Pilot Licence.
The course duration is approximately 13 months and you will complete a minimum of 150 hours training in our Diamond fleet, 70 hours as Pilot in Command “solo” and time in our Flight Training Device (or “Simulator”).
At the completion your flight training you will be assessed by one of our CASA approved Flight Examiners during your 3 hour Flight Test.
We would also recommend students complete the AVI50519 Diploma of Aviation – Instrument Rating course to meet industry requirements and to help reduce your training fees.

There is an extensive amount of theory involved in the course; approximately 900 hours will be covered with classroom activities, briefings and assessments. You will also complete 7 CASA CPL Exams. Our experienced team of Flight Instructors will be on hand to help you.
The course is conducted at our 2 Port Macquarie facilities – Sovereign Hills Classroom/Exam room and the Port Macquarie Airport. Our classrooms are modern and have free wi-fi with our classroom sizes kept to a low number to enhance your learning experience.
If taken full-time, the AVI50222 Diploma of Aviation – Commercial Pilot Licence (Aeroplane) is generally completed in 9 months. Part-time study options are available if you only want your CPL licence without the Nationally Recognised Diploma. The course is conducted at our Port Macquarie campus at Port Macquarie Airport. All classrooms are modern and fitted with multi-media equipment for effective course delivery.
Approximately 3 times a year, AIAC will conduct intakes for our Diploma of Aviation courses. Applications for each intake close on the first day of the preceding month. Prospective students should expect to hear back from one of our team within two weeks of submitting their application.
To be considered for this course, students must meet the minimum entry requirements. Please be aware, meeting these requirements does not guarantee entry.
Students must be over the of age 18 prior to their first day of study.
Prior to enrolment, students should visit a Designated Aviation Medical Examiner (DAME) to obtain a Class 1 medical certificate from CASA website. International students who are unable to visit a DAME will asked to supply a certified, translated copy of a medical certificate which meets the requirements of the CASA medical examination.
Students will need to apply for an Aviation Reference Number (ARN) and an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC). In place of an ASIC, International students will be asked to supply a certified and translated copy of a police background check as part of their enrolment application. On arrival at AIAC, international students can then apply for an ASIC.
Students must be proficient in English and meet the minimum English Language Proficiency requirements. International students must complete an IELTS (International English Language Testing System) assessment. The IELTS score is 6.0 with no individual score below 5.5) You will also need to complete a minimum ICAO Level 4 through an external provider. Students who have been pre-approved for enrolment will be invited to sit a ‘Basic Aeronautical Knowledge’ quiz and a ‘General English Language’ assessment.
A Year 12 / senior-secondary school certificate that verifies your attainment of a senior-secondary qualification, and a transcript of your subject results (note: your results must confirm your literacy / English and numeracy / maths abilities to at least the minimum levels required for attainment of the senior-secondary qualification in your state/territory)
OR an Australian Qualifications Framework Certificate IV or higher qualification (where the language of instruction is English) – evidenced by a Testamur (certificate or diploma) and a Record of Results
OR you are prepared to demonstrate your competence in both reading and numeracy through an approved Language, Literacy and Numeracy test which we provide for you.
Applicants will be required to conduct a pre-enrolment video interview with our Head of Operations and may be required complete other pre-enrolment assessments.
Students must consent to mandatory and random drug and alcohol testing.
Before entering Australia, International students will be need to hold a Student Visa (500). While studying, students must maintain their visa obligations, including performance, attendance and English language proficiency requirements. Students will need their own laptop or tablet to aid their studies, as well as a valid personal email address to receive notifications from AIAC and CASA (which we will issue).
Students must be able to pay fees and payment plans may be arranged.
